Often, key to the assessment and understanding of an existing EMF problem or issue, is the requirement to gain a view of existing EMF conditions present at the site of concern. This is best accomplished by measuring EMF levels present at the site of interest.

FMS offers a very comprehensive EMF site survey service. FMS maintains the requisite specialized equipment and experienced engineering staff, to accurately measure EMF levels including DC and AC magnetic field levels and radio frequency (RF) fields into the upper microwave bands. FMS has conducted numerous such EMF surveys throughout the US and through its technology partners, at sites throughout the world.


RF measurements
In some instances, when the source of an EMF interference is inexplicable, it is appropriate to conduct a "broad band" DC through RF frequency EMF site survey to ascertain by the process of elimination, the offending EMF source. Certain sites being considered for special use facilities such as financial data centers, hospitals, research laboratories, etc. frequently require "total building" broadband site survey measurements to insure that existing EMF sources such as nearby broadcasting antennas, passing power lines, etc. will not present EMI threat concerns.


Measuring DC fields
Frequently, the EMF source of concern is readily apparent, such as equipment in a building's main electrical room. In these instances, a broadband survey is not required and in the case of electrical equipment, only AC magnetic field levels are measured and mapped in the area of concern.

Data collected from EMF site surveys is essential to understanding the source and characteristic of offending EM fields and to the development of mitigation solutions including magnetic field shielding solutions.
